Fifteen minutes, two decks, at least three genres, and only one chance to impress the public. This is Red Bull Thre3style! On Friday, August 10, 2012 the DJ battle takes place in Amsterdam’s Melkweg. Six well-known Dutch DJ’s will show off their party rockin’ prowess and compete for a spot in the finals of Red Bull Thre3style in Chicago.

There are eighteen countries deciding who will represent them at the Chicago World Finals. It’s been a tough road for these brave warriors, but the prospect of competing in the legendary city of Chicago for the coveted title of Red Bull Thre3style Champion 2012 is egging them on.

As for the Netherlands, their six selected DJs are Gomes, Brutuzz, DNS, Goodgrip, Fullscale and Cream. The evening’s host is MC Fit, and the jury will consist of Lange Frans, MC Pryme (Armand Corneille) and The Flexican, together with the audience. On 23rd of March the Night Slugs will be leaving a slimy trail of raw baselines and rambling beats throughout the MC-Theatre Amsterdam just as they have done in CONCRETE Amsterdam. L-Vis 1990 and friend and label partner Bok Bok will be flown in for a workshop and set. Backed up by Cinnaman, they will be showcasing why they’re symbolic for the new UK sound. The event will be brought to you by Red Bull Music Academy, de traveling workshop and festival for young artists, which will be held in the autumn of 2012 in NYC.

According to the British media, the Night Slugs are symbolic for the revival of dance and are L-Vis and Bok Bok the saviors of this genre. Now it is known that the british can be a bit dramatic at times, but whoever knows the un-compartmentalizing sound of these gents will be the first to admit that it’s been a long time since something as fresh as this dropped by. Glow-in-the-dark, is how the two art & design students describe their sound. Night Slugs tracks always stand out. Previous to the club night, starting at 19:30, the two Slugs will be sharing their experience during a Red Bull Music Academy Workshop, also in the MC-Theatre Amsterdam. Academy alumnus Full Crate and Palmbomen are also attending to share their knowledge with the audience. Admittance to this workshop is free, the club night costs € 5,-.

Registering for New York City.
Between September 30th and the 2nd of November 2012, New York City will be hosting the 14th Red Bull Music Academy. Two groups of 30 musicians, producers and dh’s will be invited to the Big Apple. New York is one of the most inspiring music cities in the world. While dramatic outbursts of violence in the ghetto cradled the birth of Hip Hop, intellectuals and punkers like Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol, The Ramones and the Beastie Boys were finding each other in ‘The Village’. Disco and later House emerged when the local gay scene massively started coming out the closet in clubs like The Loft and Studio 54, while men like Miles Davis, Sonny
Rollings and Art Blakey had started a revolution a few decades earlier with Jazz. New York is music.

Enroll yourself before the 2nd of April at

Already know and love the Night Slugs? The Mishka x Night Slugs colab tees and snapbacks are still in-store at CONCRETE. Get them while they last, numbers are limited.

Back in the summer, the word was released that hip-hop legend RZA was working together with WeSC to design their upcoming collaborative headphone project.

Today, WeSC alongside the iconic Wu-Tang member introduce the Chambers by RZA headphone collection. The refined headphones are made available via the RZA Premium headphones and over-the-ear noise cancelling model – as well as the RZA Street, which offers the wearer a slimmed-down on-ear experience. Setting the collection apart from its peers, both Chambers by RZA models make use of an innovative music sharing function enabling users to connect and share their music experience. These musical majesties will be available at CONCRETE and should be arriving around the second week of December.

Fashion mastermind Fats Shariff aka Fatsarazzi has teamed up with streetwear label WeSC to create a capsule collection for Fall 2011 and with jackets, chinos, shirts, tees and even a waistcoat there’s a lot to go with in this small collection. One of the coolest pieces being the denim overall with tapered leg just epitomises utilitarian cool. Like any collaboration it’s a great way to double your audience and consumer base but it’s always important to see the relationship in the product otherwise it just becomes someone’s stamp on another label. Here you can truly see Fats’ personal style fused with the laidback design aesthetic of the WeSC brand and that’s what makes this one worth knowing about. Come check it out now at CONCRETE before they’re gone for good.
