The Air Jordan IV “Green Glow” will release tomorrow, on August 17th, making it the second of non-OG colorways to arrive for that sneaker in 2013. The long awaited new look for the Air Jordan 4 Retro is brought to life with a nubuck upper in a simple combination of black and grey. Green glow takes center stage over the eyelets and Jumpman logos, and combines with white over the AJ IV sole sitting below. Keep in mind that the “glow” in this case doesn’t denote an actual glow in the dark shade, but rather a particularly ghostly version of that color. Available tomorrow at CONCRETE.

As you probably know already, last week saw the release of the Air Jordan 11 Retro Concord. And no doubt you also heard about the drama surrounding the release. Extremely long waiting lines with far more people in line than released quantity of the shoe, little or no rules about how to purchase and a huge hype were a recipe for disaster. Shots were fired, pepper-spray was used and panic was wide-spread.

Now Highsnobiety is asking the public what we’ve learned, who (if anyone) is to blame and what we can change in future releases to prevent these types of drama at rare releases.

Some people say it is Nike’s fault for producing to little, some blame the shops for not taking proper preparations while others even say it’s the fault of blogs and other media for over-hyping this release. Personally I don’t believe Nike can be blamed for their choice to release such small quantities because if numbers were readily available there would never have been an hype in the first place, also I doubt blogs can be blamed for doing what they are supposed to do, share their love for whatever subject they write about. And we cannot blame the stores either. Sure, they knew people would go crazy about the sneaker, but who could have expected this. Should a store now hire security personnel for a Jordan release? Carry weapons and pepper spray to keep people in order? That cannot be the solution to this issue.

Personally my preferred way of handling these types of releases is a “first come, first serve” list and shops being honest to their customers about what can be expected about available quantities to prevent too many extra people waiting in without any realistic chance to be served. But that is not why I’m writing this article, my question is what you as our loyal customers think about this situation and what can be done in the future to prevent this madhouse.

Please share your thoughts and comments with us on this subject.

It is with great pride Concrete announces its upcoming exhibition featuring Sander van Heukelom’s: Original Fat Cap Chair.

Inspired by his love for and involvement in graffiti, you might not know it but you’ve probably seen his street-work before. Sander initially designed the Original Fat Cap Chair as part of an exhibition but the reactions were so heavy, the product was born. Now after a few tough years of perfecting it, the Original Fat Cap Chair is now finally ready to be sent in to the world.

The premiere will be held at the Concrete Image Store in Amsterdam on the 18th of June at 20:30. We will be opening the evening with a cold beverage and an introduction to the chair by Sander’s significant other (as we all know, behind every great man stands a great woman!), Graphic Surgery will drop by on the night to customize a chair and on the walls you will find more of Sander’s work to get an insight how the chair came to be. Of course the very first Original Fat Cap Chairs will be available for purchase on the night. It would be our pleasure to have you join us for this very special release (for more information on the event and RSVP check here)
